2006-2007 All Star Coach of the Year
Robby Sortore
Robby
Connect All Stars

From letters of recommendation ..."Robby offers the kids that he coaches his amazing expertise, patience, and unbelievable flexibility in dealing with ever demanding needs of challenging routines combined with unpredictable cheerleaders and injuries. No matter what we throw at him, he keeps his composure. He is open to ideas from others and works really well with the coaches in delivering the same message to the kids, which is key to harmony. He is able to maintain his authority as an adult coach while keeping his fun side accessible, which makes practice fun!"

2006-2007 Rec Coach of the Year
Deana Harris

Woodinville Junior Cheerleading Association

From letters of recommendation ... "Deana is an amazing coach. Although she has a lot of adversity in her personal life and runs a family business, she gives 120% of herself to the team. Deana is not only a positive role model, a caring person and a strictly safety-oriented coach, she is a true "mom" to all the girls....

Deana donates all her time unpaid, and when she was told that the girls wouldn't be allowed to stunt at the local junior high, she spent money out of her own pocket to rent space at a gymnastic center. She didn't ask one parent to be reimbursed...

Deana also sits as the president of the board for the Woodinville Falcons... I don't think another coach will be able to wear such big shoes!""

2006-2007 Activity Director of the Year
Dave Morris
Dave Morris Heritage High School

From letters of recommendation... "Mr. Morris takes the time to stop by practices to praise and thank the girls and guys for their time, hard work, school spirit, and sacrifices they make. He recognizes the value and the importance of the cheerleaders and the cheer program. He looks for opportunities to recognize and include the cheerleaders at assemblies, pep rallies, and community events. Mr. Morris has helped increase the funding for the cheer program. It is because of Mr. Morris and his support that the cheer program has been able to purchase equipment such as a full cheer and tumbling equipment such as belts and mats..."

2006-2007 Athletic Director of the Year - Bob Smithson

Oak Harbor High School

From letters of recommendation... "He truly cares about athletes.  He is always working to provide every opportunity for them. Positive, caring, giving, and highly respected are only a few of the adjectives that I could use to describe him.  He always goes the extra mile.  I do not think our district could find a better AD.  What is so amazing for me, as a 16-year cheerleading coach, is that he provides the same opportunities to my cheerleaders as he would the football team.  I have dealt with 4 other athletic directors and never have been treated as professionally and caring as Bob Smithson as treated me.  He acknowledges the Wildcat cheerleaders for all their hard work and successes...

He funded a charter bus just for the cheerleaders food and lodging for all playoff games leading up to the football team capturing the 4A state title. He always makes sure we have a place to practice even when other coaches want to take our spot. The football team was recognized at the State Capital.  Bob included the cheerleaders in the trip to the Olympia. We have a sports board in the gym just like the other sports. Our high school is being renovated.  During the planning stages, he oversaw that the cheerleaders will still have space for practice and our annual competition. He recognizes the cheerleaders personally when walking through the hallways. He comes and watches the cheerleaders during practice. He funded not just a school bus but a charter bus to Yakima for State and to the airport.  He also funded the allotted money for food for the upcoming WIAA State Cheerleading Championship, just as he does all other teams that go to state. He always boards the bus when we head off to nationals, gives a pep talk, and wishes the cheerleaders good luck..."
